On Thursday, October 5th please join us for "1980s: The "Golden Age" of Russian Rock, Part 2" featuring Michael (Misha) Danilin from New York University. This event is part of the Occasional Series, sponsored by the NYU Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia.

Let us throw a glimpse at the exciting time of the “Golden Age of Russian Rock” -- 1980s -- and some of its most notable representatives. The following decades took a toll on their lives, sometimes carrying them as far apart as to the “different sides of barricades”, quoting Mikhail Borzikin from the band TELEVIZOR. But back in the 80s they were still together, in figurative if not the literal sense, comprising the very core of vibrant underground youth subculture.

Michael (Misha) Danilin received his MA from Russian and Slavic Department at NYU in 2008. He has been teaching at New York University since 2006, working as a preceptor at such world cultures’ courses as “Russia between East and West” and “Russia since 1917” and teaching Russian language. Besides, Danilin is deeply involved in modern music: he writes, sings and produces for several different projects, both in the US and abroad. As a host and co-producer of an independent online radio station Rock-N-Dance Radio he has done around 20 shows exploring roots and trends of modern music.
