Join us for a discussion with Frank Wcislo on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 10 AM to 12 PM.

Frank Wcislo is an Associate Professor of History and European Studies and the Dean of The Martha Rivers Ingram Commons at Vanderbilt University.  He is a historian of modern Russia, Eurasia, and Europe, who earned his A.B. in Political Science at the University of Michigan, and M.A., M. Phil, and Ph.D. at Columbia University.  His published books and articles are concerned with questions of bureaucracy, political culture, institutional reform, and revolution in the prerevolutionary tsarist empire.  He is the author of Tales of Imperial Russia.  The Life and Times of Sergei Witte, 1849-1915 [Oxford, 2011] and his current book project is entitled The Death of Autocracy, 1914-1918. A Study in Organizational Failure.  Wcislo has been a Visiting Professor of History in the United Kingdom, and holds multiple teaching and advising awards from Vanderbilt.  As the inaugural Dean of The Ingram Commons, he has led since 2006 a collaborative effort of multiple university student, staff, administrative, and faculty constituencies to enhance the first year experience at Vanderbilt and thereby enrich the culture of a residential undergraduate education at a research-based university.  He resides on campus with his family in the Dean’s Residence.
