Join us on Friday, December 5, 2014 for a lecture and poetry contest co-sponsored by the NYU Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia and the NYU Department of Russian & Slavic Studies.

The afternoon will include a lecture by Dr. Deborah Bradley, Lecture in Music at Columbia University, and Director and Pianist of the Moebius Ensemble and SPEAKmusic. Dr. Bradley will be speaking on "Hearing Pushkin through Music."

 

The lecture will be followed by a poetry recital contest featuring two groups of contestants:

Group I will consist of students who are not Russian heritage speakers will recite a Russian poem of their choice.  Poems should be 8 lines or longer for Elementary I students, 14 lines or longer for all other students. The length of recitation should not exceed 2 minutes. Judges will choose winners from this group by evaluating intonation and pronunciation.

First Place Prize:  $80
Second Place Prize:  $50

Group II will consist of students who are Russian heritage speakers will compose and recite a Russian poem, 16 lines or longer. Judges will evaluate intonation, pronunciation, and delivery.

Second Place Prize:  $50
