April 9, 2013 | 3:00 to 5:00 PM | Bronfman Center, 1st Floor Gallery
Sponsored by the Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia and the Alexander Hamilton Center for Political Economy.
Russian-American relations have been in decline for at least five years, of that there can be no doubt. The American mainstream media complain of a muscular and uncooperative Russian stance abroad and civil rights abuses at home. Russians complain of US unilateralism and the absence of reciprocity. We seek a longer view and a wider perspective, and consider whether there are in fact strong foundations for better relations.
This is an expert panel of diplomats, businessmen, political actors, and scholars assembled with the purpose of assessing the state of American-Russian relations; to consider why US-American relations have deteriorated in recent years and especially over the past year; and to bring to bear on the American and Russian publics both expert knowledge and common sense. It is the belief of the organizers that relations have deteriorated beyond what circumstances would warrant and that strong leadership, especially in the United States, is needed to reverse the trajectory.
