Happy New Year, All the Russias readers! In my capacity as blog editor, I am pleased to announce two new features for 2019. The first is a series of dispatches from Eliot Borenstein’s newest book/ blog, Russia’s Alien Nations: The Secret Identities of Postsocialism. Like his previous book/ blog, Plots Against Russia: Conspiracy and Fantasy After Socialism (forthcoming in March with Cornell University Press), Russia’s Alien Nations will lay bare the work in progress as it progresses in near-real time. When an Alien Nations dispatch coincides with another All the Russias post, both will appear in the “table of contents” that arrives in your email inbox if you are a blog subscriber. The posts will also be available here, should you desire to see them all in sequence as they accumulate.
The second feature will be a series of posts by Eliot Borenstein, along with occasional conversations between Eliot and myself, on the topic of “re-reading Boris Akunin.” As huge fans of the author’s early work (read: the Erast Fandorin series), we are excited to revisit it, some twenty years on, and reflect on the experience.
