Join us for the inaugural event of the new series, Russia and Its Neighbors: In Search of a New Paradigm — In Conversation with Dr. Yevgenia Albats, featuring Harvard economist Oleg Itskhoki.
Oleg Itskhoki, a professor of Economics at Harvard University, co-authored the renowned Itskhoki Muchin Model of exchange rates, which is widely taught as a foundational course in economic departments worldwide. With a BA in economics from Moscow State University, an MA in economics from the New Economic School, and a PhD in economics from Harvard University, Oleg’s academic journey has been marked by numerous accolades. He was awarded the 2022 John Bates Clark Medal, the most prestigious award for economists under the age of 40 ( it is considered a predictor for the future Nobel in economics) participated in the powerful Review of Economic Studies Tour, served as a Sloan Research Fellow, and received the Excellence Award in Global Economic Affairs from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. Notably, he was also included on the IMF’s list of 25 influential economists under the age of 45. Prior to his tenure at Harvard, Oleg held the esteemed Venu and Ana Kotamraju Endowed Chair in Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles. He previously served as a Professor of Economics and International Affairs at Princeton University. Oleg’s affiliations include the Econometric Society, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), the CEPR (Centre for Economic Policy Research), and the position of associate editor of the American Economic Review.
In this conversation, Professor Itskhoki will examine:
• The global economic repercussions of Russia’s war against Ukraine
• The effectiveness and limitations of Western sanctions
• The resilience of Russia’s economy in sustaining the conflict
• The logic behind U.S. policy toward Europe, Ukraine, and Russia
The discussion will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.
