The second annual Ottoman Political Economies workshop will convene a transdisciplinary network of early career scholars devoted to exploring new economic, legal, and social histories of the Ottoman Empire.  This year’s panels include investigations of understudied early modern financial infrastructures and trade relations, new research on inter-imperial competition in the Age of Revolutions focusing on Russian-Ottoman relations, and innovative interventions into scholarship on gender, the occult, and ecology.  The in-person workshop will deepen scholarly connections cultivated during 15 Zoom-based workshops since Fall 2020, convening 20 participants for 5 research-focused panels, a public talk on recently-published monographs and a business meeting for members of the OPE network.

Sponsors: The Middle East and Middle East American Center (MEMEAC) at CUNY, the CUNY Graduate Center, Ottoman & Turkish Studies at NYU (OTS-NYU), the Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies at NYU, the Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia at NYU, and the Department of Middle East and Islamic Studies (MEIS) at NYU

This workshop is not open to the public; however, if you are interested in participating as a listener, you are welcome to attend. Please reach out to Dr. Ayşe Baltacıoğlu-Brammer to register and receive the full program: abb12@nyu.edu.
