Galina Bogatova

Galina Bogatova earned her Ph.D. in International Relations from Florida International University. Ever since, her research has centered on Russian power discourse, with a particular focus on its gendered dimensions. She explores how the concept of familial kinship between Russia and peripheral nations is used to legitimize violence against neighboring countries while reinforcing an imperial identity for Russians. Galina’s ongoing publications delve into this ideology and its broader implications. Additionally, her research examines the identity and grassroots politics of the recent wave of Russian political asylum seekers who have fled military conscription or repression. This work aims to assess the potential of this new Russian diaspora to challenge Putin regime in contemporary Russia. Her current research interests include Russian Internal Colonization/Decolonial Project; Gendered & Regional Russian Politics; Transformation of post-Soviet republics identities (Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia); The ideology of Familial Kinship in Russian power discourse; The identity and political activism of the latest wave of Russian immigration/diaspora in the US.
